It is at the Whitsundays that the delights of the Great Barrier Reef and a diversity of lifestyles from backpackers and takeaways to luxury hotels and international a la carte restaurants, all meet in a wonderfully harmonious combination of delights.

Whitsunday Islands

The 74 Islands of the Whitsundays are the tops of all that remain of a coastal range, situated between Townsville and Mackay and some 900km north of Brisbane, which was submerged when sea levels rose at the end of the ice age. Most of the islands have National Park status, such as the Molle Group, which has extensive walking tracks offering unsurpassed views over the surrounding islands and distant mainland.

The region has a well-defined dry season during winter. Average temperatures range between 10°C to 20°C. Between January and March there is high humidity, strong seasonal rainfall and the temperatures average between 20°C to 30°C.

The Whitsunday Islands are all about relaxing. Let the calming force of nature take its course and surrender to a gentle sea breeze or for some serious pampering book in at a day spa at one of the islands resorts.

If there is a perfect holiday destination on the Queensland coast it is probably the Whitsundays.

Whitehaven Beach

Whitehaven beach is a pristine stretch of pure white beach which extends for over 9 kms. Fringed by crystal clear water and lush tropical rainforests. It is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Resorts in the Whitsunday group of islands

Most of the island resorts in the Whitsundays provide accommodation and facilities for families as well as couples. Dedicated Kids Clubs offer a wide range of organised activities and equipment for supervised child minding allowing parents the time to indulge in some of the resort experiences. Resorts with Kids Clubs include: Hamilton, Hayman, Daydream, Brampton, Club Med Lindeman, South Molle and Long Island Resort.
