Hayman Island
One of the most beautiful Whitsunday islands.

Hayman Island is the most northerly of the Whitsunday Group and is situated about 28 kilometres north-east of Shute Harbour and about 900 kilometres north of Brisbane. A quiet mountainous continental island mainly covered with eucalypt and hoop pine, Hayman offers you a feast for your eyes on any one of many bushwalks.

Hayman Island is a relatively small island, only 400 hectares (4 km long by 3 km wide) with particularly beautiful views to the south. On a sparkling sunny day the colour of the water of Hayman's lagoon and Whitsunday Passage are simply stunning - the hues range from gold to turquoise to emerald to sapphire. On Hayman, you will believe the blues can make you happy.

Other islands and the mainland can be seen from Hayman and are accessible by boat or yacht. Spend your days relaxing under a palm tree and sipping cocktails, swimming in the spacious pools or exploring the bushland around the island.

Hayman Island Resort

There has been a resort on Hayman Island since the 1940s when Sir Reginald Ansett chose it as an ideal destination. The current $300 million 5-star hotel (it is one of the 'Leading Hotels of the World') was built by Sir Peter Abeles and opened in 1987.

Hayman is a resort like no other. Situated around a crescent-shaped, white, sandy bay on the south-western side, the resort is the only facility on the island. The buildings have been designed to blend in with the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Hayman provides unique culinary indulgences. The resort boasts fabulous restaurants and bars plus a lounge, and hosts evenings with the Chef in the main kitchen. Guests can also dine in special outdoor island settings or in the Reef surrounds.

Hayman presents resort living in 244 beautifully appointed rooms, suites, penthouses and a villa, situated in Pool, Palm, Lagoon and Beach Wings, all featuring private terraces or balconies.

Getting to Hayman Island

There are daily flights to Hamilton Island. Transfer to Hayman Island is via a luxury vessel which serves complimentary champagne. The journey from Hamilton takes approximately one hour. It is also possible to fly to Proserpine airport and transfer to the island by seaplane ($480 for the flight with capacity of six) or helicopter.
